UAE based hotel group looking to grow inbound Chinese visitor numbers as dragon economy forecast to reach 84 million travellers by 2015; TIME Hotels Management to meet key travel buyers at forthcoming Chinese Visitor Summit The growth in inbound visitor numbers from China to the UAE has prompted TIME Hotels Management to augment its strategic marketing efforts in order to target this increasingly influential sector as the number of Chinese travelling overseas is forecast to hit 84 million by 2015, and 100 million by 2020. The World Tourism Council (WTC) say around 70 million Chinese travelled overseas in 2011, up by over 38% on 2010 figures, of which an estimated 300,000 Chinese tourists visited the UAE last year spending US$334 million according to Mastercard research. “Officials have released data that shows outbound tourism from China has grown 20% in the first five months of 2012, which is consistent with our experience and that of the Dubai market overall. We too have seen a significant increase of inbound Chinese business to our Dubai properties over the last 12 months, with the TIME Grand Plaza in Al Qusais reporting an 86% rise in room nights year-to-date from leisure visitors, and our Al Barsha property, has been witnessing a rise in Chinese corporate business, especially long-staying guests,” said Mohamed Awadalla, Area Vice President, TIME Hotels Management. Per capita spending by Chinese visitors is also reportedly the highest, at AED4,092 compared with AED3,477 per average British tourist and AED3,996 per average Kuwaiti tourist. But this pales almost into insignificance once compared with global spending figures of $72 billion last year, ranking third highest spenders behind the Germans and Americans at $84 billion and $79 billion respectively. To capitalise on opportunities to grow this lucrative sector still further, TIME Hotels Management is participating in next month’s inaugural Chinese Visitor Summit, jointly organised by Dubai-based NPI and i2i Group China, which will bring together over 75 top tier Chinese travel buyers - with budgets exceeding US$5 million - with leading tourism industry suppliers. Clearly one of the main drivers is retail, vice chairman of Dubai Duty Free, Sean Staunton said of the annual turnover of US$1.46 billion, some 18 per cent was attributed to Chinese travellers, although they made up less than four per cent of the total numbers. Forty per cent of watch sales, 32 per cent of cosmetics and 20 per cent of sunglasses were made to that market. Indeed, according to Global Blue, a shopping tourism company, 20% of all global tax-free shopping is made by Chinese shoppers. ”We’ve been tracking the travel patterns of the dragon economy tourist since the Chinese government granted the UAE ‘approved destination’ status in 2009. With a flying time of around eight hours, and the recent surge in connectivity with route expansion by both Emirates and Etihad, as well as Chinese carriers, the UAE is a hugely popular destination, offering high quality hotel accommodation as well as upscale retail opportunities that appeal to the growing number of affluent Chinese visitors,” said Awadalla. The two-day Chinese Visitor Summit, which will be held in Dubai from 5-6 September, includes face-to-face meeting opportunities and the chance to participate in a series of interactive sessions covering multiple aspects of doing business in the Chinese marketplace, complemented by a number of networking events. “Our packed appointment schedule will give us one-on-one face time with over 40 high profile buyers as well as allowing us to gain insight into the intricacies of doing business with prospective Chinese partners and opportunities to better understand cultural nuances that can be integrated into our operation to secure future business,” explained Awadalla. “Understanding this unique market is key to tailoring our offering and becoming a preferred partner in the region. For example, leisure travellers typically split their stay between several hotels during a three to seven-night stay, and so our portfolio of city centre properties is attractive to Chinese visitors looking for a single city multi- experience stay,” he added. Both the TIME Oak Hotel & Suites and TIME Grand Plaza Hotel are situated within easy reach of major retail destinations such as Mall of the Emirates and Mirdiff City Centre, which include the high-end retail stores favoured by the brand-conscious Chinese tourist; as well as providing the full spectrum of entertainment options from desert safaris to city tours. Guests staying at TIME hotels also have the preferred accommodation option of twin-bedded rooms and all guestrooms and suites come equipped with a hot water kettle, which is an essential for every Chinese traveler, whose staple travel snack is a ‘Pot Noodle’ or congee (rice porridge). Of course Mandarin speaking staff and accepting certain Chinese debit cards is also a plus.

Air transport provides jobs and sustainable economic growth

Over 56 million jobs worldwide and $2.2 trillion in GDP are supported by aviation, according to a new report released at the global Aviation & Environment Summit in Geneva. The report, Aviation: benefits beyond borders, was produced by the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) and Oxford Economics. It outlines an industry that plays a larger role in the global economy than many would expect. “It’s a fascinating look at the scope of the aviation industry and our role in the world,” says Paul Steele, Executive Director of ATAG the global association that represents air transport, “when you realise that aviation, if it were a country, would be the 19th largest economy in the world, supporting 56.6 million jobs and over two trillion dollars in economic impact, you really see the scale of air transport.” Of the 56.6 million jobs supported by aviation, there are 8.4 million people directly employed by the sector, 9.3 million jobs at aviation industry suppliers and 4.4 million jobs are induced through spending by aviation industry employees. When you account for the part of the tourism sector made possible by air transport, over 34.5 million jobs are included in this total. “Of course, aviation’s economic benefits spread far beyond the monetary aspects outlined here. When you take into account the further benefits gained through the speed and reliability of air travel, the businesses that exist because air freight makes them possible and the intrinsic value to the economy of improved connectivity, the economic impact would be several times larger. “While the numbers relating to passengers are impressive enough, with nearly 2.7 billion passengers carried in 2010, the figures for air freight emphasise the importance of this mode of transporting valuable and perishable goods. The $5.3 trillion worth of freight carried by air transport in 2010 represents some 35% of the value of global trade, despite it representing half a percent of the volume. Air transport is invaluable for the shipment of lightweight but valuable goods.” Other facts uncovered in the report, available at www.aviationbenefitsbeyondborders.org, include: there are 1,568 commercial airlines, 3,846 commercial airports, 192 air traffic control providers and 23,844 aircraft in service; Asia-Pacific accounts for 34% of passenger traffic worldwide, larger than both Europe and North America (both 27%); 35% of all international tourists travel by air; the average occupancy in aircraft is 77%, much higher than other forms of transport. Steele adds, “The report also expands the economic data to include a view of aviation’s social benefits and environmental progress. Aviation is an invaluable part of the lives of modern people and will prove even more so as emerging economies continue to develop. It can also provide more immediate and vital links to remote communities, many island states and important relief with disaster response. “With the sustainable development of economies and the creation of jobs comes the responsibility to carefully manage the resources we are using and the impact that we have on the world. All parts of the commercial aviation industry are engaged in ways we can reduce environmental impact - from new technology and operational efficiencies to infrastructure development. The amount of work occurring across the industry is an impressive sign of our commitment to sustainable development.”

ملتقى الفرق المسرحية المستقلة

يُنظم مركز الفنون بمكتبة الإسكندرية، بالتعاون مع المؤسسة الدولية للإبداع والتدريب، الملتقى الإبداعي للفرق المسرحية المستقلة (أوروبا- البحر المتوسط، في دورته الثامنة، وذلك في الفترة من 1 إلى 10 فبراير المقبل.


ويشارك في الملتقى الإبداعي لهذا العام أكثر من 22 دولة أوروبية ومتوسطية، هي: مصر، وفرنسا، وهولندا، وألمانيا، وإنجلترا، وسلوفينيا، ولبنان، وإسبانيا، وفلسطين، وسوريا، وجمهورية التشيك، وإيطاليا، وسويسرا، والسويد، وبولندا، والنمسا، واليونان، وبلجيكا، وبلغاريا، وصربيا، وقبرص، وجمهورية لاتفيا.

وقال الدكتور محمود أبو دومة، مستشار مركز الفنون بالمكتبة، إن الملتقى الإبداعي للفرق المسرحية المستقلة يُعد حدثًا فنيًا وثقافيًا، وتجمعًا مسرحيًا دوليًا فريدًا من نوعه، مؤكدًا أن الملتقى مضاد لفكرة المهرجانية؛ لذا فهو لا يمنح جوائز ولا يخلق أي مساحات للتنافس بين الفنانين، إنما هو فضاء للتدريب والتعليم والحوار وبناء المشروعات الفنية المشتركة، بالإضافة إلى تقديم الأعمال المسرحية المعاصرة في مجال الدراما والرقص والعروض المركبة.
وأشار إلى أن الملتقى الإبداعي يحرص على ألا يتجاهل البعد التاريخي لمدينة الإسكندرية التي ينطلق منها، وبالتالي فهو يركز اهتمامه على دول شمال وجنوب المتوسط والدول الأوروبية؛ لما تمثله هذه الثقافة من خصوصية داخل نسق الثقافة المصرية ذاتها.
وأوضح أن الملتقى يهدف من خلال تراكم أنشطته وتكاملها، أن يتحول الفن إلى ثقافة قادرة على الوقوف ضد أجواء فقدان الثقة بين الشرق والغرب، وطرح قيم التعايش والإيمان بالتنوع والفهم المتبادل، كبديل عن فكرة صراع الحضارات.
ويشهد الملتقى هذا العام 26 عرضًا مسرحيًا متنوعًا، ما بين الدراما والرقص والتعبير الجسدي والعروض الهيكلية والموسيقية، بالإضافة إلى عروض الأطفال واللقاءات الاجتماعية، ومجموعة من البرامج؛ منها برنامج الحوار؛ الذي يقدم حلقات نقاشية متخصصة في مجال المسرح، وبرنامج الإصدارات؛ الذي يضم جلسات لتوقيع الكتب، وبرنامج التدريب والتعليم؛ الذي يوفر ورش عمل تدريبية للكتابة المسرحية وتدريب الممثلين، وغيرها.

النصوص الذهنية والمسرحة الصعبة

النصوص الذهنية غالبا ما تضع المخرج أمام تحد كبير، لذا فإن الكثير من المخرجين يتهيبون من تقديمها على خشبة المسرح، وإذا ما غامر البعض في تقديم نص مسرحي ذهني، فغالبا ما يقع ضحية إخراج نمطي أقرب إلى التنفيذ دون أن تكون له بصمة على العرض المسرحي، لكن سامح بسيوني نجح في تقديم قراءة إخراجية تخطت التنفيذ ووضع بصمته على عرض «عجايب» الذي قدمه البيت الفني للمسرح التابع لوزارة الثقافة المصرية ضمن احتفالية «مصر ضيف شرف مهرجان القرين السابع عشر»، وهو العرض الذي حصد عدة جوائز في مهرجان المسرح في مصر العام المنصرم، بينها أفضل عرض وافضل مؤلف وأفضل مخرج، كما قُدمت «عجايب» في عدد من المهرجانات آخرها مهرجان المسرح العربي في بيروت قبل أيام.
نص ذهني
عاطف النمر كتب نص «عجايب» في مسارين متوازيين اعتمد فيهما على الرمزية بشكل واضح، وقدم نصا ذهنيا يعتمد على الكلمة في المقام الأول وهنا تكمن صعوبته، المسار الأول حوار طويل ومعمق بين عاطفة الإنسان وعقله، وتداخل الضمير في بعض الأوقات، ويكشف هذا المسار عن سيطرة العقل في أغلب الفترات على شخصية آدم وهو الأستاذ المفكر والكاتب وصاحب الأفكار، مع غياب للضمير الذي يكون نائما أغلب الفترات.
المسار الثاني للنص هو التحدي الذي يعيشه آدم في رحلته الطويلة مع المخابرات والتحقيق وسيل الاتهامات التي يواجهها في حياته ثم هجرته إلى الخارج وعودته إلى مصر بعد ذلك.
والنص قراءة ذكية لواقع الأمة العربية، وتحديدا مصر، عبر سنوات طويلة اي منذ الحكم الملكي إلى الثورة وحتى يومنا هذا. وعبر هذين المسارين يقدم المؤلف لمحة من العلاقات الإنسانية خاصة قصة الحب بين آدم وحياة.
وقد لجأ المؤلف بذكاء واضح إلى الرمز في حالات كثيرة أوضحها تقديم أسماء مثل العقل، العاطفة، آدم، حياة، المحقق1، المحقق2 والضمير.
رؤية إخراجية
المخرج سامح بسيوني كان البطل الرئيسي في هذا العرض المسرحي الجميل، فقد أعاد قراءة النص عبر تشكيلات إخراجية جميلة، ولجأ إلى عدة حلول للتغلب على ذهنية النص وصعوبته ليقدمه في انسيابية تجذب المشاهد إليه، وعلى رغم اعتماده على ديكور ثابت، وهو ديكور موح ومعبر عن الحالة التي يعيشها بطل النص، فإنه استفاد من الإضاءة التي لعبت دورا أساسيا في تفسير الرمزية في النص، وكانت عاملا أساسيا في كسر حدة الملل التي قد يواجهها نص ذهني.
كما لجأ المخرج إلى استغلال الطاقات الفنية للممثلين خاصة الفنان إسلام سعيد الذي أدى دور العقل بتميز وكان أحد نجوم العرض بلا منازع، وإيمان سامح في دور حياة ووهي فنانة موهوبة قد تأخذ فرصتها بشكل أكبر في التلفزيون والسينما لأنها تمتلك موهبة وحضورا، وإلى حد ما الممثل الذي أدى دور الضمير، أما الممثل إيهاب بكير، الذي أدى دور الأستاذ، فقد كان مرهقا إلى حد ما.
أحد عوامل نجاح بسيوني في قراءته الإخراجية هو إدخال الغناء الذي نجحت في تقديمه الموهبة الشابة منيرة محمد. كما نجح المخرج في تشكيلاته الثنائية والجماعية عبر حركة دائرية جميلة على خشبة المسرح.


المغرب وجبران فى عصا البلياردو
عن دار إفريقيا الشرق صدر للأديب عبد الرحيم جيران عمل روائي موسوم ب "عصا البلفياردو" وهي من الحجم المتوسط. وتتناول هذه الرواية من منظور نقدي إشكالي وضع المثقف وعلاقته بالتحولات التي اعترت تاريخ المجتمع المغربي الحديث، والرواية وهي تحمل على عاتقها هذه الرؤية الإبداعية والنقدية فإنها تقدم صورة للحضور الأنطلوجي -هنا والآن- وتعيد في الوقت نفسه السؤال حول دور الفرد في التاريخ. لكنها تأبى وهي تفعل ذلك إلا أن تمرر إشكالها الموضوعاتي من منظورات مختلفة بما يعنيه ذلك من تعدد في الرؤية والسؤال. وإذا كان ممكنا تصنيف الرواية في إطار رواية انجلاء الوهم فإنها تعمل على صياغة موضوعها انطلاقا من تعالقه مع قضايا وجودية من قبيل سؤالي الموت والأصل. كما أن الرواية تعيد النظر في كثير من المسلمات حول العيش في تاريخيته ومن ضمن ذلك العلاقة مع الآخر.ومما يميز رواية عصا البلياردو هو كونها تستقي شكلها من العنوان الذي ارتضاه لها الكاتب عبد الرحيم جيران، وذلك في تواز مع دلالتها؛ حيث يمفصل الموت من حيث هو قدر مستحوذ مع بنية الشكل الروائي الذي يتأسس على انفجار الحكايات نتيجة اصطدام بعضها بالبعض تماما كما هو الحال في لعبة البلياردو.

مسيحين افغانستان غنيمة طالبان

ما زال المسيحيون في افغانستان، بعد تسع سنوات على سقوط نظام حركة طالبان، يدفعون ثمنا كبيرا لكونهم مسيحيين، على غرار عنايت الذي يخفي عقيدته، وموسى الذي نال حظه من التعذيب في السجن.


يصف عنايت البالغ من العمر 22 عاما حياته بأنها عالم خفي من الخوف والوحدة والتضحية. فهو مثلا لم يقبل ان نقابله سوى في منزل أحد الاصدقاء النادرين الموثوقين غرب كابول، مشترطا عدم الافصاح عن اسمه الحقيقي.


يراوح عدد المسيحيين في افغانستان بين الف والفين وخمسمائة، وهم كلهم يمارسون معتقدهم في الخفاء، على ما يقول اصدقاء غربيون لهم.


أما السلطات المحلية، فتكتفي بالتنديد بمن تصفهم بالدجالين الذين يدعون الاضطهاد املا بالحصول على تأشيرة دخول لدولة اجنبية.


في شهر ايار/مايو، أظهر تقرير تلفزيوني مراسم عمادة اطفال في افغانستان، ما ولد موجة جديدة من العداء للمسيحية في البلاد.


فخرجت في البلاد تظاهرات تدعو الى قتل اولئك "المرتدين". وتحت هذا الضغط، اعتقلت الشرطة الافغانية عددا من المشتبه في تحولهم الى المسيحية ومنهم موسى سيد البالغ من العمر 45 عاما ونحو ستة اطفال.


سجن موسى، العامل مع الصليب الاحمر، في كابول. وقد اقر باعتناقه المسيحية قبل ست سنوات وابدى رفضه العودة الى الاسلام، دون ان يعلم ما اذا كان قراره هذا سيكلفه حياته بموجب الشريعة الاسلامية او السجن المؤبد او النفي.


في ذاك الصباح، كان عنايت على مقربة من صديقه المعتقل.


ولدى وصول موسى الى السجن، اذاقه الجلادون والسجانون لمحة من عذاب جهنم الذي يتوعدونه به.


فقد كتب الى احد اصدقائه شارحا انهم لم يكفوا على مدى اسابيع عن اغتصابه وضربه واذلاله "ليل نهار"، وهو كم من العنف تفسره الثقافة السائدة في البلاد المبنية على مقاومة المحتلين المسيحيين منذ القرن التاسع عشر.


منذ العام 2001، يتعرض من يشتبه في انهم مبشرون اجانب الى القتل في افغانستان، وكان آخر ذلك ما تعرض له ثمانية اطباء يعملون في منظمة مسيحية غير حكومية قتلوا في اب/اغسطس من العام 2010 شمال البلاد.


وعنايت، الذي نشأ في هذه المنطقة الواقعة على مفترق طرق في اسيا الوسطى والمفتوحة على التأثيرات الاجنبية، تعرف على المسيحية من خلال بعض "الاصدقاء الاميركيين" بعد العام 2000.


ثم قرر اعتناق المسيحية في الهند، حيث حصل على منحة دراسية في العام 2006. وهو بلد يحظى المسيحيون فيه بالقبول، بحسب تعبيره.


يروي عنايت كيف حدث معه هذا التغيير ذات ليلة عندما كان ارقا، فيقول "سمعت صوت الله، قويا ودافئا، وشعرت ان روحه تهبط علي وتعانقني، وشعرت اني ولدت من جديد".


عاد عنايت الى افغانستان في العام 2009 وقرر ان يتحدث عن هذا الدين الذي جعل منه "رجلا افضل"، لكنه اصطدم بجدار عدم الفهم، فأمه انفجرت بالبكاء وشعرت ان فعلة ابنها عار اصاب العائلة.


ومنذ التوقيفات التي جرت في ايار/مايو الماضي، كف عنايت عن الحديث بالشأن الديني في العلن، واحجم عن حمل الكتاب المقدس.


فهو لا يريد ان يبتعد عن اهله وبلده الذي يرغب في العمل لأجله، وهو مستعد حتى للتنكر لدينه الجديد في حال تم توقيفه، ويقول "اخشى ان اخسر كل شيء".


أما صديقه موسى، فلم يعد يأمل في افضل من نفيه الى الخارج، الى احدى الدول، في تسوية سرية قد تعقدها كابول مع حلفائها الغربيين، على غرار ما جرى مع مسيحي آخر في العام 2006. فاذا "اطلق سراحه هنا، لا شك انه سيقتل" كما يقول احد اصدقائه الاوروبيين.


ويبدي هذا الصديق الذي عاش لوقت طويل في افغانستان تفاؤله لحالة موسى.


ويقول بأسف "عشر سنوات مضت وكل هذا المال الدولي ينفق لنصل الى هنا، الى السجن والتعذيب".


وينظر الى الجبال التي تلوح من ناحية الجنوب ويقول "لا داعي لمطاردة مقاتلي طالبان في الجبال، عندما نرى ما جرى لموسى نعرف انهم موجودون هنا، في الحكومة".
